The Israeli army thwarted an attack or infiltration attempt on Israel’s northern border where four terrorists were planting explosive devices along the fence separating Lebanon and Israel in the early hours of Monday morning.

“A short time ago, an IDF force foiled an attempt to place explosive devices along the border with Syria,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement. “Special forces that were carrying out an ambush near an IDF post in the southern Golan Heights spotted a cell with a number of terrorists planting explosive devices along the border.”

IDF Spokesman Jonathan Conricus featured a surveillance video of the on his Twitter feed of the operatives approaching the border fence and the IDF attack.

“This is how the attack was thwarted. It is still unclear which organization or agenda these assailants served. Our troops on the Golan and along the Blue Line remain vigilant against possible attacks,” he wrote.

“We hold the Syrian regime accountable,” he added.

This comes a week after an attempted infiltration by Hezbollah that resulted in an hour-long exchange of fire between Israeli and Lebanese troops. The Times of Israel notes that tensions have been high on the border with Lebanon and Syria since a Hezbollah fighter was killed in an apparent Israeli air strike in Damascus last month. Hezbollah has vowed to seek revenge.

Since then, the IDF has identified suspicious activity among apparent shepherds. The Jerusalem Post reported that the military has “identified several locations along the Golan Heights where they know Hezbollah collects intelligence on Israel using shepherds in the area to gather intelligence on troop movement.”
